If you thought last year was a big year for new hotel launches in Dubai, it looks like 2019 will be no less impressive for grand debuts. Here’s three in particular that we’ve got our eye on…

Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences, The Palm
The Jenga-shaped design of this new resort is even more striking than that of its sister resort, Atlantis. Sitting side by side on the crescent of The Palm, the two properties together will offer a luxury playground for business and leisure travellers alike, comprising a jaw-dropping 63 hectares of land, 92 swimming pools, the largest stretch of continuous, accessible privately-owned beach front in Dubai, and 35 restaurants and bars, including ten celebrity chef restaurants. Located in the west wing of the Royal Atlantis development, which is scheduled to open later this year, the new hotel will offer 795 guest rooms, including 693 ocean and palm rooms, 96 suites and six signature suites.

A sky-high infinity Sky Pool that will stretch 90 metres in length and soar to 96 metres above The Palm, on the property’s 22nd floor, will boast views of the iconic Dubai city skyline from one side and the Arabian Gulf on the other. Other features include a 3,000 square-metre wellness centre, spa, 17 retail outlets and 13 restaurants and bars including Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, offering contemporary dishes inspired by historic gastronomic recipes dating back to the 1300’s. The lobby bar will be home to the largest jellyfish tank in the world, housing approximately 2,000 jelly fish and three additional aquariums. The property will celebrate and integrate fire and water with five dramatic installations designed to create an experiential journey throughout the property.

Grand Plaza Mövenpick Media City
This latest five-star offering from Mövenpick, located in the heart of Dubai Media & Internet City, opened its doors on 1 March and comes complete with its own Convention Centre making it ideal for groups in town for business. A ballroom with natural daylight can accommodate up to 800 guests and cater for a range of events, with a further nine flexible meeting rooms on offer. Inspired by the Middle-Eastern culture, 235 sophisticated and spacious rooms and suites, offer impressive views of the Palm Jumeirah and Emirates Golf Club.

Grand Plaza Mövenpick Media City offers an array of international cuisines and entertainment across five intimate and friendly restaurants, lounges and bars. From live food stations to classic cocktails surrounded by stunning views, guests can experience Grand Delicacies under the majestic hand-blown glass chandelier at the Grand Lounge, live cooking stations at Slice – The Neighbourhood Deli, a Healthy & Refreshing Menu by the pool or Aperitif time at Bytes and an affordable upmarket chic experience at Twenty-Three Rooftop Bar.

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira
The luxury Mandarin Oriental brand is making its much-anticipated debut in Dubai this year, with a second property to follow on Sheikh Zayed Road in late 2020. Overlooking both the pristine waters of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai’s skyline, with an enviable Jumeirah Beach setting, the property will offer 178 rooms and 78 suites with warm inviting interiors designed by Jeffrey Wilkes. A magnificent lobby will welcome guests on arrival with a forest of lights leading to the beach front.

Event planners can choose from a 700 sqm glass-walled ballroom featuring a beachfront terrace and six elegantly appointed meeting spaces. Six bars and restaurants include the first Middle Eastern restaurant from Michelin-starred Portuguese chef José Avillez, Warayaki-style Japanese steakhouse Netsu and The Bay, a brasserie-style ground-floor restaurant with show-kitchens. The resort will also feature a gym, 2,800-square-metre spa, dedicated beach club, and infinity pools surrounded by landscaped gardens.
