Health and wellbeing are high on the agenda for event planners this year, with wellness elements increasingly being integrated into meetings and incentives. Here’s our pick of six hot new spa openings in 2019, ideal for corporate groups in need of some rest and relaxation…

Longevity Health & Wellness Hotel Alvor

This state-of-the-art wellness retreat recently opened in western Algarve with panoramic views over the bay of Alvor. The 70-room property boasts a dedicated wellness and medical spa over two floors focused on a full array of medical and non-medical therapies for optimal health and wellness. A chromotherapy hammam and Epsom salt room with salt infusion make for complete detox and relaxation, whilst therapies on offer range from ozone therapy and osteopathy to dental detox and reshaping treatments.

Longevity Health & Wellness Hotel also features a rooftop Pure Cafe by Longevity, The Mediterrânico Restaurant and the Chill Out & Relax Tea Lounge – with the focus being on local and functional, alkaline and anti-inflammatory foods.

Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel

Leading eco-hotel, the Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel on Santa Cruz Island, has introduced its brand-new spa. The custom-built space is the perfect sanctuary for hotel guests to unwind and rejuvenate after busy days of wildlife watching. The spa is located a stone’s throw from the 27-room hotel, down a sheltered pathway through verdant gardens set back from the beach. Built from volcanic rock, the contemporary and eco-friendly design of the building has been created to emphasise the unique flora, fauna and landscape of the Galapagos, with treatments using Palo Santo oil from the ‘holy tree’ native to mainland Ecuador and the Galapagos and delivered by local therapists trained by leading spa experts, Raison d’Etre.

Meanwhile, the hotel applies energy-saving measures throughout, stocks rooms with environmentally friendly toiletries and refillable water bottles, follows a meticulous recycling system, uses minimal pesticides and preservatives in its food offering and carries out daily beach cleans.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London

An oasis of calm, the extensively restored and enlarged Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London (which fully reopened earlier this year following a fire in 2018) is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital. New York designer Adam D. Tihany has overseen the redesign of the spa, which offers 13 luxurious treatment rooms and a Rasul water temple. In keeping with the fresh new look, the extensive spa menu has also been enhanced to include exclusive partnerships with some of the most sought-after health and wellness experts in the world.

The new spa features a room designed for traditional ASANTE Chinese Medicine consultations and treatments and a Bastien Gonzalez Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio – the first of its kind in the UK. Meanwhile, a custom-designed PilatesPT studio offers training programmes devised by award-winning trainer, Hollie Grant.

Lefay Resort Dolomiti, Italy

The second property from Lefay Resorts (main image), located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Italian Dolomites in the ski area of Madonna di Campiglio, promises to offer a wellness temple where senses and soul are regenerated. The new sustainable mountain resort will offer Lefay’s award winning wellness method combining classical Chinese medicine with modern Western techniques.

Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti will feature 88 Suites, two restaurants, bars, ski and bike rooms and a 5000 sqm Lefay SPA including swimming pools, relaxation areas, saunas and treatment rooms, making it one of the largest spas in the entire Alpine region. Signature treatments will use their own Lefay SPA philosophy and the resort’s new SPA menu will include pre and post ski and hiking massages as well as classes for releasing tension and stretching muscles and state-of-the-art gym equipment to improve strength, balance, flexibility and core stability.

Beaverbrook, Surrey

The quintessential British Country Estate and former home of press Baron Lord Beaverbrook, nestled in the heart of the Surrey Hills, recently boosted its appeal with the opening of the Coach House Health Club & Spa. Here you’ll find the influence of the English Countryside setting reflected in both the range of treatments and state of the art facilities. The eloquent designs of renowned stained-glass artist Brian Clarke further connect the interiors to the splendour of the Beaverbrook Estate and its grounds.

Set apart, the spa treatment area and thermal spa are filled with flowers, stained glass, rills with flowing water and a tiled wall complete with vibrant interiors. The spa has six treatment rooms alongside a Relaxation Room, which is warmed by a glowing fire and two swimming pools – one indoor and one outdoor (plus a children’s pool). The Thermal Spa includes a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna as well as The English Bath House, a variation of the traditional hammam.

Arctic Elements Lakeside Spa, Finland

This winter, an innovative new wellness concept – Arctic Elements Lakeside Spa – will open in Finland’s far north, with an elemental and ecological focus. Situated in Muonio, the spa sits on the shore of  Lake Jeris, next to the Pallas-Ylläs National Park – a location said to have the cleanest air in the world for an inhabited area (according to WHO studies).

With a concept based around Finnish mythology and folk tales, Arctic Elements Lakeside Spa will offer five different saunas, representing the elements found in traditional shamanic wellbeing rituals, with ancient Finnish Gods named as the protectors of the saunas. Alongside the five saunas, Arctic Elements Lakeside Spa will also offer a range of experience and wellness showers, relaxation areas and a revitalising external ice hole swimming area, all set against a backdrop of frozen lake waters, inky-dark pines, thick snow and the rolling landscapes of the third largest National Park in Finland.

The spa will be accessible to those staying at the stylish Hotel Jeris, that has been newly renovated for winter 2019.
